An Outstanding Double

On 12-13 December 2018, Magna Academy Poole underwent its first Ofsted inspection since it was previously designated as Outstanding in 2015. The results of this inspection can be read and downloaded here

We are delighted to report that Ofsted has confirmed in the report, published on Monday at Magna Academy, that it remains an Outstanding school.

The news was issued on Twitter and, within 24 hours, had prompted a flood of over 14,000 'hits', so many of them containing responses and good wishes from followers. We have assembled a selection of these feedback items and attached them here to share with you.

Highest of benchmarks

Our second Outstanding rating follows close behind our provisional Progress 8 score of 1.04 in Autumn 2018, outperforming both local grammar schools in an 11+ grammar school borough. It placed Magna in the Top 1% of all schools and 38th nationally. This combination of high benchmarks affords us a strong pedigree when it comes to parental choices for secondary education in the Poole-Bournemouth conurbation.

Mr Tutt, Academy Principal, said:

‘It is rare that a school manages to achieve back-to-back Outstanding grades, and this is a testament to the whole Magna community. I am very proud of the students, staff, governors and parents/carers who made this report possible. The Magna community works very much as one team. The report says many lovely things about the academy.

Magna has always set itself very high academic standards. It has a mission to deliver what we refer to as a grammar school for all, which means we passionately believe in the right of every child to have access to a school committed to academic excellence − independent of background, prior attainment or needs.

We continue to be a ‘work in progress’ and we are determined to continually improve. Every decision and action taken here is done so with the aim to ensure that every student can ‘climb their personal mountain’ – whether to university or to an equally aspirational alternative – so they are able to eventually thrive in a fulfilling job and have a great life.'
