Y7 Applicants for Sept 2018 Intake

Banding Assessment:
Year 7 Applications for September 2018

We are delighted that so many parents and carers have named Magna Academy as one of their preferences for a secondary school for their child. This News item concerns those families who have expressed a preference for Magna but where the student has not yet sat an online assessment test.

As you may already be aware, Magna Academy operates a banding admissions system, where we offer a certain amount of spaces to each ability band. The aim of the banding system is to ensure that Magna Academy is a truly comprehensive Academy, offering places across the range of abilities.

Each new student will be allocated a low, middle or high ability band based on the results of the assessment. The proportion of places offered at Magna Academy in each band is calculated based on the national spread of abilities. Please refer to our Admissions Policy for full details on this.

In order to ensure that we use a consistent method of allocating each child a band, we require all applicants to sit an online assessment. This assessment take about two hours to complete and examines a range of literacy and numeracy skills.

We have already hosted a number of assessment sessions earlier in the year. However, we also now require late applicants to take the assessment. Our dates for testing will be confirmed by letter to individual families but will each last from 4.00pm to 6.00pm on the appointed date.

Please arrive at our Student Reception from 3.45pm, where you will be greeted and taken to a waiting area prior to the assessment. The Student Reception is located at the end of the car park furthest from the main road.

Please note that, if your child does not take the assessment, this will impact their place in the priority order when allocations of places at Magna Academy are made.

Please confirm attendance with your child’s name on 01202 606884 by Friday 24th November.

We look forward to welcoming you to Magna Academy.
