GCSE Results Day 2017 at Magna Academy

Magna Academy is celebrating a great set of GCSE results, with many students achieving excellent grades and making very strong progress.

In terms of the government’s main key progress measure of Progress 8, Magna is anticipated to have, once again, a very positive score following on from achieving 0.52 in 2016, which placed Magna well within the top 5% of schools in the country. The Progress 8 score will be published in the autumn. Magna achieved an Attainment 8 score of 48.33, using the new points system, meaning our students have made excellent progress across 8 subjects from their starting points.

We are very pleased that 55% of students achieved a ‘strong pass’ (grades 9-5) in English, which is likely to be in the top 5% nationally for progress in this measure. 42% of students achieved a ‘strong pass’ (grades 9-5) in Maths. 64% achieved grades 9-4 (a ‘good pass’) in English and Maths.

GCSE French and Art also achieved 92% A*-C pass rates.

We had a small cohort of 78 students, but many students gained fantastic results. Notable student achievements include:

Liam Stevenson: 1 grade 9, 1 grade 8, 1 grade 7 and 6 A/A*’s.

Ben Churchill: 1 grade 8, 1 grade 7 in English and 6 A/A*’s.

Kyran Lightburn: 1 grade 7 and 7 A/A*’s

Lana Barnes: 1 grade 7 and 4 A/A*’s

Our Principal, Mr Tutt, said: ‘We are incredibly proud of our students and how hard they have worked to achieve these amazing results and we warmly congratulate all of them.’

‘Year 11 have been a really positive and enjoyable group of students to work with and have shown that they have really high aspirations for their futures. They rose magnificently to the challenge of high targets, working with a relentless sense of purpose to achieve them. We wish them all the success for the future and look forward to working again with many of them in the Sixth Form.’
